Martin Stern has nurtured a life-long interest in nature and gardening.
Including living in southern England in 1987 where he studied with world-reknown garden
designer and writer John Brookes.
Since that time Martin has designed gardens big and small throughout the upper midwest and
northeast. He seeks simplicity of intention, architectural interest and
diverse multi-seasonal planting schemes in his work. Each garden has a
separate and distinct personality. The gardens at Squire illustrate his
design philosophy.

The plan for Squire House Gardens was born during travels to England back in the 1980s, inspired by the enticing small shops visited throughout Britain. After renovating the house and grounds, we opened the doors to the business that became Squire House Gardens in May 1991. It has now been twenty-one years and the gift shop, plant nursery and gardens have become a true destination. We offer landscape design services and horticultural advice as well as hosting events throughout the year. Things are changing with a new generation of customers and we look forward to trying innovative ideas as we plan ahead for the next twenty years. Squire House co-owner Martin Stern

LEONORA

Richard
Meacock was born and raised in England, where he learned to mow lawns and trim
hedges to the exacting standards expected by his father.
Needless
to say this nearly killed off any love of gardening. In fact his
fondness for gardens returned when he came to live in America.
He
can now be seen mowing and trimming the extensive lawns and hedges at
Squire House. As well as building the arbors, pergolas and clematis
towers that are a hallmark of the gardens, Richard is also a full time
teacher at Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul. |
