WE SHOP SMALL, TOO Squire House joins other local businesses in promoting SHOP SMALL. By shopping at small business, consumers are able to contribute positively to their local economy. We are gratified by the presence of our regular customers, many of whom have made Squire House part of their shopping tradition for years. We are excited by the numbers of new people who are discovering our shop and gardens for the first time. THANK YOU! What many do not know is that WE shop small, too. We have long-term associations with most of our principal vendors and like many of our visitors we are welcomed with warmth when we meet, we know their stories, weʼve seen their children grow, and we believe in what they are doing. Our vendors have persevered through changes and challenges, driven by a passion for their products and a devotion to their workers. There are a number of suppliers who were with us when we first opened our doors in 1991. These include “Grace Note Chimes” - the remarkable producers of the best wind chimes anywhere. We have had the extra large chime in our garden for over 20 years. When we experienced some wear and tear, the company was willing to renovate the set of chimes at no cost (except shipping which we covered). We expect another 20 or more years of the enchanting sound of the chimes. Years ago I purchased a charming cat plaque designed by George Carruth. We introduced Carruth Studio to the St. Croix Valley when we opened in  1991 and have carried this line ever since. The most recent offerings from Carruth have been quirky, fanciful vegetables and fruits. These greatly detailed plaques are meticulously cast and hand-finished.We appreciate the opportunity to work with those mentions and other small, local and Fair Trade companies who provide us with goods that bring beauty to our lives and those around us. |
